Injectables are a very popular, minimally invasive way to address common signs of aging and help recapture a more youthful appearance. There are many products available on the market today, and most of them can be used for several different purposes. Dr. George Sanders’ patients are often surprised at how versatile and customizable these products can be.
In this article, Dr. Sanders outlines five ways injectables can rejuvenate the skin.
1. Minimize Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Botox is perhaps the most well-known and commonly used cosmetic injectable. The neuromodulator is designed to soften dynamic wrinkles, meaning wrinkles that develop from repeated facial expressions. When injected into specific facial muscles, Botox temporarily relaxes the muscle such that the overlying line or wrinkle becomes less visible.
Botox is commonly used on fine lines around the corners of the eyes, between the eyebrows and across the forehead.
2. Fill in Deeper Folds and Creases
Dermal filler products like Juvederm and Restylane are frequently used to minimize the appearance of deeper facial folds and creases. When injected into the fold or crease, the product has a cushioning effect, gently filling in the space so the skin looks smoother. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers also draw moisture to the area for hydrated, supple-looking skin.
3. Plump Up Cheeks and Lips
With age, the cheeks and lips can lose youthful volume and shape. The cheek skin loses elasticity and can start to sag. The lips may look flatter and fine lines may develop around the corners of the mouth. Injecting fillers into the cheeks, lips and other facial areas that look hollow or aged (e.g., the temples) restores lost volume and creates rounder, more youthful-looking facial contours.
4. Fill in Scars
Another excellent use for certain dermal filler products is to fill in acne scars and other types of scars and noticeable depressions in the skin. For example, Radiesse or Sculptra can reduce the visibility of scars and improve the texture of the treated skin.
5. Rejuvenate the Hands
Injectables can rejuvenate the skin on the hands as well as the face. A few well-placed injections of products like Radiesse and Restylane can safely and effectively smooth and soften wrinkled, aged-looking hands. They also camouflage the prominent veins.
